Hey Atlanta, Got Philanthropy?

  May 12th, 2008

SHERPA strongly believes in supporting the Atlanta community. If you are looking to build future leaders and spread technology education, we want to support you.

  • We provided Atlanta-based Ron Clark Academy a gift-in-kind on their original interactive design.
  • We help Atlanta youth development Moving in the Spirit ongoing digital marketing consultation and services.
  • We stay involved with the Atlanta technology non-profit supporting non-profit Techbridge.
  • Provide free or discounted hosting to various organizations in Atlanta.

But it is selfish of us. The way we see it, we get nearly all of it back.

  • We support educational programs that build future leaders.
  • We meet other business leaders.
  • We get a good feeling from helping out.

And we aren't alone. Nationally, Americans gave $295B in 2006 according to Fast Company. That makes the US first in the world in giving as a percentage of GDP (1.7%). The next closest is Britain at .73%. You rock, America.

And what is more amazing is that it isn't the uber-rich who are giving to charity. 65% of households with annual incomes less than $100k gave to charity. Granted, $100k/year is the top 10% of families, but that is still fantastic that so many households make room in their budgets to support charities. In fact, 75.6% of gifts came from individuals. You rock, American families.

So back to Atlanta. The Techbridge Digital Ball garnered over $1M for Atlanta's non-profits such as Med Share. You rock, Atlanta.
